Here’s an interview from June 2018 (basically, a year ago, like the interview with Austin Allred) with Ben Nelson, the CTO and co-founder of Lambda School, conducted by Joshua Fluke. I’ve been following his channel for about a year now, and his openness and attitude have been very influential in getting me to apply to a bootcamp (Lambda, actually) and attempt a career switch from I/T to development.
I found it very interesting to hear Ben’s thoughts about Lambda School graduates vs traditional college graduates in computer science (about 28 mins in). The main point was that a Lambda graduate could conceivably go to school for 7 months, job hunt for 3 months and land a job, then work for an additional 3 years, getting experience and building a portfolio – and the cost isn’t astronomical. A college graduate, at that same point in time (4 years of schooling) might attempt to enter the workforce with essentially no experience, unless internships were had, and a degree. That student might even end up being interviewed BY the Lambda graduate, depending on the company being applied to! It was a scenario I hadn’t thought of.
